The Nintendo GameCube is the fourth home video game console made by Nintendo and was first released on September 14, 2001 in Japan. It was released on November 18, 2001 in North America and May 3, 2002, in Europe. It is part of the sixth generation console era. It was the first Nintendo home console Sega released games for, due to the end of the Dreamcast and Sega's transformation to a software company. It is officially abbreviated as GCN, though it can also be abbreviated as NGC. However, using the Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Advance Cable, it could be connected to a Game Boy Advance to access exclusive features.

Nintendo GameCubes come in a variety of colors, including Indigo, Platinum, Jet Black, and Spice. They are 4.3 inches high, 5.9 inches wide, and 6.3 inches thick. Nintendo GameCubes were the first Nintendo console to use discs instead of cartridges, though the discs it uses are smaller than the DVD-sized discs the Xbox and PlayStation 2 used. Because of this, GameCubes cannot play DVDs or audio CDs. Through a partnership with Panasonic, a DVD-playing GameCube called the Panasonic Q was made.
