Sticks the Badger is a character that debuted in the Sonic Boom universe of Sonic the Hedgehog titles in 2014.

Games[]

Sonic Boom series[]

Sticks first video game debut was in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric in which she stays on Bygone island, offering her future teammates a trade on any 'Shinies' (shiny junk mostly of which Sticks is a huge fan) in exchange for Crowns which can be used to buy team upgrades.

After Lyric's defeat at the end of the game, Sticks meets with the team for their celebrations where Amy is holding onto a piece of a robot's arm. Sticks takes it off her declaring that she's been looking for a spatula thanking her, and then leaves.

Sticks' first playable role came in the sequel, Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal in which she replaces Amy as the fourth member of the team. Tails, after losing a game of Rock Paper Scissors with Sonic is given the unenviable task to locate Sticks and inform her that her best friend Amy has been kidnapped by the evil ancient snake, Lyric. Sticks declares this great news because evil snakes make way better boots than evil ladybugs, and Amy loves boots. Sticks then runs off to go and save Amy with an exasparated Tails chasing after her.

Through a few trials with Lyric's robots, Sonic suggests that he, Tails and Sticks would make a pretty good team, but Sticks isn't sure due to hearing there being no "I" in team, and they'll need eyes to find Knuckles who was meant to be meeting with Amy. After some confusion, Sticks agrees to become a team with the group and goes on to help out in the fights against a brainwashed Shadow, Metal Sonic and Lyric.

Upon rescuing Amy, Sticks becomes a full fledged member of Team Sonic.

Sticks' is also playable alongside the rest of Team Sonic in Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice.

Tails sends Sticks out to install the monitors around the village, where she comes across one of Dr. Eggman's robots, D-fekt, a seemingly harmless little robot who has unlimited magentic power potential, allowing him to create huge deadly mechas. Sticks takes a liking to the robot and treats it like an adorable puppy despite what the rest of her team warns her.

Over the course of the game D-Fekt fights against Sticks and friends repeatedly, although it seems to like Sticks somewhat even accepting Tails' tracking device as a 'friendship bracelet' from her and allowing the group to follow it as it tracks down dangerous Ragnium, a highly potent robotic fuel source Dr. Eggman plans to use to use to defeat Sonic and friends.

As it turns out D-Fekt is a highly emotional robot who wants to show his affection for those it's grateful to. Dr. Eggman rejects him constantly, even going so far as to kick him when D-Fekt fails his mission, causing Sticks to come out and reveal the team's location. In one last effort to show Dr. Eggman his worth, D-Fekt unleashes all his power and becomes a highly powerful mecha machine, but in doing so also traps Dr. Eggman against a wall with a steel beam.

The final battle of the game consists of Sticks and Sonic facing off against D-Fekt's berserk form to return it to it's senses and save Dr. Eggman. As a token of his appreciation a sheepish Dr. Eggman offers Sticks D-Fekt. Tails reprogrammes D-Fekt to be harmless and Sticks gets to keep D-Fekt as her adorable pet.

Other games[]

  • Sonic Runners: Sticks was an unlockable character. She was a speed/wild type with a triple jump. The game has since been discontinued.
  • Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom: Sticks is an unlockable character. Her special ability prevents her combo from being lost should she run into enemies or damage inducing obstacles.
  • Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games: Sticks is a guest character available for the archery event in both games. In the 3DS version she is unlocked by defeating her in Archery Plus on Day 3 of Sonic's story. In the Wii U version she can be unlocked by defeating her after she challenges the player following a tournament.

Personality[]

Sticks is highly paranoid always believing crazy conspiracys and even owns her own tinfoil hat to prevent the government from reading her mind. Despite her apparent kooky behavior, Sticks often turns out to be correct about the bizarre events going on and walks a line between madness and brilliance.

Due to living in the jungle by herself for years, Sticks doesn't tend to pick up on social cues, and can be described as feral at times, being quick to attack and her paranoia leads her to sometimes distrust even her own team mates.

She's also a technophobe seeing technology as untrustworthy, an opinion which Dr. Eggman's constant robot attacks don't help with, and this can often lead to disagreements between herself and Tails.

Trivia[]

  • It seems Sticks was originally planned to be a more major player in Sonic Boom: The Rise of Lyric going by concept art. For whatever reason she was reduced to a NPC in the final product.
  • Despite Sticks' technophobia, she has had at least two instances where she's ended up with a pet robot that was designed by Dr. Eggman. Both times the robot betrayed her, proving her paranoia correct.
  • Sticks is the only character that debuted in Sonic Boom that has made appearances outside that series.
  • Sticks is the only character not designed by Sonic Team to get official artwork on Sonic Channel.
  • Sticks is mentioned by Amy in Sonic Frontiers, with her saying "I wonder if Cream and Sticks are free? Make a road trip out of it." This is the first instance of any Sonic Boom character being mentioned in a mainline Sonic game. Before this, Sticks had a profile on Sonic Channel, was featured in the Japanese web comic series Sonic Comic, and was a guest character in Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
